The Spotted Turtle Trail including Wetland Restoration

We are in the midst of creating a 15-mile long regional trail system called the Spotted Turtle Trail to connect the parks and reserves along the Beaver Creek Wetlands corridor. This new Ohio Regional Trail will provide easy access to these locations. The intent is to dramatically increase enjoyment of the unique natural space, to inspire many new people with its beauty and diversity, to increase awareness, and appreciation for and support of this irreplaceable natural asset.

American Veterans Lincoln Statue & Pavillion

The purpose of this memorial is to educate the nation on President Abraham Lincoln's signing into law to care for Civil War soldiers wounded in battle. And to tell the story of the American people's care for our nation's veterans. This will provide a place for reflection and healing, opportunities for educating students and future generations, and to create a national tourist destination point at the entrance of the forthcoming National VA History Center at the Dayton VA Medical Center.

Airshow Parking

We are looking to create a new parking lot. We've experienced flooded lots in past years which has significantly impacted our show as we've had to implement remote parking. Remote parking significantly increases our costs because we have to shuttle everyone. It also has a negative impact on the local economy because people are unable to attend the show and cannot spend time in the local community due to traffic delays.

Triumph of Flight Monument

The Triumph of Flight will be a national monument to flight and gateway to our area's aviation heritage. It will stand 270 high with a stainless-steel replica of the 1905 Wright Flyer III, the world’s first practical airplane, at its top. Its planned location is adjacent to the future National Park Service facilities in the original Wright brothers' aircraft manufacturing hangars at US Route 35 and Abbey Avenue.

Grant Park Accessibility Improvements

To address safety and accessibility within the entire park, the master plan calls for two bridges that will allow for reliable year-round access. Currently, the main trails at Grant Park are accessed via an existing 160-foot bridge over Hole’s Creek. This bridge has reached its lifespan, and the plan calls for replacement with a new bridge that will be vehicle load rated and ADA accessible. The second bridge will also cross Hole’s Creek upstream along the same trail network.

National Veterans Affairs History Center (NVAHC)

SEC/VA has designated the Dayton VA Medical Center (DVAMC) as home for the NVAHC. Three buildings are required to house the "baseline" Center - two existing historic DVAMC facilities (buildings 120 and 126), and a new building to be constructed. Building 120, the Putnam Library, will house the Public Archives Research Center; building 126, the former warehouse, will be used for the Center's artifact storage and restoration; and, the newly constructed building will house the NVAHC Museum.

Community of Well-Being Initiative

The Community of Well-Being Initiative represents the critical missing pieces of the data and the tools that will enable community leaders—civic visionaries, local government, funders, non-profit organizations, employers, educators and healthcare providers—to align their efforts to realize greater community well-being and economic vibrancy, so we can make Dayton a great place to live for everyone and return the region to the powerhouse it once was.

Montgomery County Jail Health Care Unit

The Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners is repurposing existing jail space to provide more detox, suicide prevention treatment, medical care and enhanced intake area. An alarming increase in inmates experiencing several medical/mental health conditions has resulted in significantly more hospital trips. The planned behavioral health unit will decrease the number of general beds and add 100 treatment beds, improving inmate outcomes and successful community reintegration.
