In 2019, a partnership between the Air Force Research Laboratory and the State of Ohio created the unique opportunity to fly UAS beyond line of site over 500 square miles of National Air Space.

With a unique combination of federal research, excellent academic cyber centers, strong cyber industries, and a waiting customer base, the Dayton Region is home to four institutions designated as Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. The Region is also home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), headquarters of the Air Force Research Lab, National Air and Space Intelligence Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, and the Air Force Institute of Technology. WPAFB is leading the development of cyber resilient networks for military and commercial applications.
