Feedback Sought on Draft Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) in partnership with the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC) seek public comment on the DRAFT of the Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy. The Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy is the comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region, assembled with assistance of the US Economic Development Administration and significant input from stakeholders across the 13-county Dayton Region CEDS territory.

A virtual Public Participation Meeting will take place via Zoom, a video conferencing platform, and will be held as follows: Wednesday, January 26, 2022 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. After a brief presentation featuring a summary of the DRAFT plan, MVRPC and DDC staff will accept comments and answer questions.

The DRAFT of the Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy plan document is also available for public review on MVRPC’s website at mvrpc.org/ceds and at the MVRPC offices, 10 North Ludlow St., Suite 700, Dayton, OH, 45402, during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Written comments regarding the DRAFT plan will be accepted at the above address, web address, or via email at sschweikhart@mvrpc.org until February 4, 2022.

Introduction

The Dayton Development Coalition and the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission are partnering with the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to update the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the Dayton Region. This strategy driven roadmap will strengthen and diversify our regional economy by identifying our regional goals. 

The region’s history of innovation, aviation, and our hardworking spirit is the perfect foundation for our story. This process will establish our collective vision for tomorrow with a strong and resilient economy.

Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy Progress Update

 Launch the strategic planning process with a series of robust stakeholder engagement sessions to gain feedback on the Dayton Region’s Successes, Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations and Risks.


 Gather and analyze data that tells the story of the past, present and future of the Dayton Region’s economy.

  • Data and Industry Cluster Analysis Summary


 Using results of the stakeholder feedback, data analysis, SOAR assessment, and alignment of key partner initiatives, create a proposed list of strategic priorities.

check mark  Conduct outreach to all 13 participating counties, all key industries and related organizations to brainstorm objectives under each strategic priority.
 

 Finalize the draft Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy plan document and seek public input.

 

Secure resolutions of support from all 13 participating counties, letters of support from all key industries, and adoption of the Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy by the Board of Directors for MVRPC and DDC.


Submit the Dayton Region Economic Development Strategy to the Economic Development Administration for approval.

Draft Goal:The Dayton Region attracts, develops and retains talent, ensuring workforce readiness and availability.
Strategic Priority 2:Infrastructure
Draft Goal:The Dayton Region features a well-connected, reliable and well-maintained network of critical infrastructure.
Strategic Priority 3:Vibrant Communities
Draft Goal:The Dayton Region boasts vibrant communities that attract new investment and offer superb quality of life.
Strategic Priority 4:Small Business and Entrepreneurship 
Draft Goal:The Dayton Region promotes a thriving small business and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Strategic Priority 5:Resilient Economy
Draft Goal:The Dayton Region maintains a growing, diversified, and resilient economy.
