Dayton Art Institute - Replace the Roof - Phase 1
The Dayton Art Institute is approaching its 100th year for much of the iconic building, listed on the National Historical Register. In an effort to preserve and protect this beautiful building for the next 100 years, the DAI has conducted a thorough review of capital needs for the building. It has been determined that the roof (original to the building in most cases) should be a top priority and it can be completed in phases as it reaches the end of its useful life. The PDAC ask is for Phase 1

The Dayton Art Institute serves as not only an iconic landmark for the Dayton region, but also as an economic anchor in its neighborhood. This neighborhood, although beautiful and historic, is finally seeing a true comeback through private and public investment. The Dayton Art Institute must remain open, safe and inspiring for the larger community to benefit. By addressing the capital need of replacing the roof in responsible phases as funds are made available, will not only allow the museum to thrive, but also the neighborhood to prosper.

The Dayton Art Institute strives to be a place that is accessible to anyone who wants to visit. In 2022, approximately 50,000 people visited the museum. Based on current visitation numbers, we anticipate that 2023 will be similar.

Of the total population of visitors, approximately 40% have a household income of less than $50,000 per year and 57.5% have a household income of less than $75,000 per year. Over 10 percent of our visitors belong to a household receiving SNAP benefits.

When we look at the population of visitors coming from within the 3-mile radius of the museum, approximately 68% of the visitors have a household income of less than $50,000 per year and 83% have a household income of less than $75,000 per year. Over 24% of visitors from within a 3-mile radius are from a household receiving SNAP benefits.
