Gaunt Park Pool Essential Maintenance
The YS Gaunt Park Pool is the only public pool in Greene County, welcoming visitors from across the region along with residents. Maintaining a public pool is a major challenge for a small municipality, but the Village is committed to sustaining this amenity with significant equity, job and quality of life contributions. Immediate needs are repairing the walls and funding the "Swimming for All" program. We currently see an annual loss of $50K and need support for this vital regional service.

Yes
As indicated in Question 33, the Village of Yellow Springs feels confident that our local Community Foundation will fund a portion of the total project cost, and we have Council support for directing the balance of the project cost from our General Fund, which will contribute to deficit spending but is critical to our local taxpayers and the regional community.

The Village of Yellow Springs has been highly successful with securing federal, state and local grants, and we are dedicated to actively searching for funding opportunities to sustain a healthy, thriving community that contributes significantly to Greene County via sales tax, not to mention property tax, and to the entire state by providing a unique recreation and entertainment destination that is welcoming to people from all backgrounds and abilities. Currently, we have not been able to identify other sources to support this project beyond what has been identified earlier.
Community Details
The Yellow Springs Gaunt Park Pool is the only public pool in Greene County and serves a diversity of residents and visitors from across the region. Not only does the Pool provide meaningful jobs to youth who are just starting out their careers, but it also supports important recreational opportunities to people of all ages and abilities. The Gaunt Park Pool is a hub for a variety of community events, including a youth swim after the 4th of July fireworks and a dog swim when the Pool closes on Labor Day. While individuals from all backgrounds share this public regional amenity, the shift in Ohio and across the country to mostly private pools underscores the importance of a public pool to ensure that those from disadvantaged backgrounds have equitable access to swimming and social connections.
The Village of Yellow Springs has requested several earmarks, including for our Yellow Springs-Clifton Connector shared-use trail and Springs-Net municipal broadband projects, but these have typically been in years that while we were on the list, the earmark process did not move forward in the budget. Although not an earmark, we are currently implementing a $1.8 million federal surface transportation grant that is creating a multi-modal path along the main entrance to the Village with complementary traffic calming features. Additionally, Representative Turner, Senator Brown and Senator Vance have written letters in support of our RAISE grant application to develop the YS-Clifton Connector.

Yes
My project is not on the list of ineligible projects.
Yes, we received a $25,000 capital appropriation in FY2019-20 to support development of our Yellow Springs-Clifton Connector Trail project, and the Village of Yellow Springs has also support local institutions such as the Glen Helen Nature Preserve and WYSO in securing state capital appropriations.
