Replacement of Upflow Clarifiers within Basins 1 and 2 at Miami Water Treatment Plant
These upflow clarifier basins are critical to the water treatment process. Coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation occur in the basins. The existing upflow clarifiers were installed in the late 1980’s as part of the expansion of capacity from 48 MGD to 96 MGD at the Miami Water Treatment Plant. Replacement is required as the existing are at the end of their useful life.

Dayton Water, a true regional asset, serves nearly 400,000 residents of the City of Dayton, and other nearby neighbors, including Kettering, Brookville, Clayton, Trotwood, Riverside, Moraine, Harrison Township, Centerville, Washington Township, parts of Greene and Butler Counties, and some base housing for WPAFB. Also, Dayton maintains connections for emergencies to Vandalia and Oakwood. Dayton Water serves major hospitals, schools, and universities, numerous healthcare services, and thousands of businesses. Dayton Water has been diligent over the years in maintaining its facilities to keep the water rates as low as possible since some of the ratepayers in Dayton and other neighbors served by Dayton Water are economically disadvantaged. Dayton Water is among the lowest-cost water systems in the region.
Dayton Water maintains two, redundant 96MGD water treatment plants: the Maimi Water Treatment Plant and the Ottawa Water Treatment Plant, each able to maintain the demand of the entire system. Still, the whole system is most efficient when both plants work together and complement each other. In addition to redundancy and efficiency, the Maimi Water Treatment Plant is expected to increase production as the regulations for PFAS levels tighten. To accommodate the expected increase in water production, the City has begun to invest in more wells to bring more water to the Maimi Treatment Plant as the levels of PFAS are under the detection limit at the Miami Well Field. Increasing production is part of the overall PFAS treatment strategy for Dayton Water. The overall strategy takes into consideration the cost of treatment to decrease the burden of PFAS treatment for the ratepayers.
The Miami Water Treatment Plant process includes four contact clarifier basins, which need updates as they are approaching the end of useful life. The plan is to rehabilitate two basins at a time, starting with the two in most need of repair. Rehabilitating two at a time will allow Dayton Water to maintain water treatment at the Maimi Water Treatment Plant throughout the course of the project. The project will replace the contact clarifier parts, repair concrete as needed, and reinstall protective coatings where necessary.
Yes, Wolf Creek Trunk Liners

This project consists of approximately 3,000 LF of 36” and 3,000 LF of 54” sanitary liners on the two primary trunk sewers for the Wolf Creek Sanitary Sewer Basin. On each separate sewer span (manhole to manhole), the work includes the furnishing of all labor, tools, equipment and materials, and performing all operations in connection with the lining of the existing 36” and 54” sanitary sewers with a continuously extruded jointless and seamless pipe liner with enough extra length to facilitate sealing of the liner to the manholes. The work shall also include complete maintenance of all wastewater flows and reopening/reconnecting active sanitary service connections.
