1:30 PM   Breakout Session 1: Policy Issues Affecting the Dayton Region

I. Panel Discussion: The Rise of China as International Competitor: This panel discussion will address the challenges that China poses to U.S. economic and national security interests. Topics will include how our defense spending and national security policy should respond to China’s rising military might, the growing economic competition with China, and human rights considerations. The panel will touch on the conflict between protecting U.S. interests without stifling the economic benefits of interaction with China. This has a particular importance to the Dayton region, which employs more than 2,000 workers at Chinse-owned Fuyao Glass America. Also, our region is the center of Air Force research and home to many high technology defense contractors which puts a local spin on China’s aggressive interest in defense technology.

2:00 PM Breakout 2: The International Spy Museum: **This session is sold out.**

Every nation considers intelligence essential to its national security. The International Spy Museum lifts the veil of secrecy on the hidden world of intelligence, exploring its successes and failures, challenges, and controversies. Learn about the ingenuity and imagination of real-life spies with the largest collection of international espionage artifacts ever placed on public display. Spanning the history of espionage around the globe, many of these artifacts have never before been seen by the public.

As part of the museum’s Artifacts of the NSA exhibit, view the German WWII Enigma encryption machine used to send coded messages by Nazi leaders. Dayton’s own Joseph Desch, headed a top-secret program National Cash Register to develop an American version of the code-breaking Bombe that could break the code of the four-rotor Enigma machine. The legendary NCR Bombe was built by hundreds of Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in the heart of Dayton.
