Community Details
By completing these segments of the Great Miami Riverway Recreational Trail, City of Sidney residents and Shelby County community have the capability to enjoy safe and scenic trail that connects to the entire Great Miami Riverway Recreational Trail which upon completion will be over 95 mile of continuous off road trail from Sidney, Ohio to Hamiliton, Ohio and when you include east west connectors for a total of 360 mile plus of walking and biking possibilities. The Shelby County segment from Kuther Road to the Village of Lockinton completes 2.3 mile of trail, and the Miami County Park District has committed to complete the remaining 2.6 mile from Lockington to Piqua northern terminus of the Great Miami Riverway Recreational Trail. The City of Sidney segment extends the completed trail from Graceland Cemetery to the Downtown area and Tawawa Park, so that users of the trail may experience the many amenities of Sidney and their park system. The trail not only provides recreational capabilities to users, the trail enhances economic benefits to hospitality providers along the entire length of the Great Miami Riverway. With completion the entire Southwest quarter of Ohio becomes a destination spot and provides that "place making" model that can attract new businesses and expansion of current business and industry as employees have recreational and social possibilities.
Have not received Congressionally earmarked funding, Shelby County did make a request in 2023.
City of Sidney received $850,000 FY 2021 State Capital Budget to advance the trail from completed trail southwest of Graceland Cemetery to Kuther Road.
Shelby County received $500,000 2022 State Capital Budget for completion of trail segment from Kuther Road to Village of Lockington.
